I was booked to work at the Deniliquin Ute Muster this year as a compere alongside Mike Brady of "Up There Cazaly" fame. I had spoken with Mike a few times on the dog and bone, but it was the first time we'd met. We hit it off immediately on a social and working level and plan to do more together in the future.
I hadn't been to the Ute Muster for a few years and compering on that big stage was a real hoot. Mike and I took it turns to introduce acts. We geed the crowd up by saying things like this:
Mike: ........and later on of course, we have.....
Me:........The Living End!!
And the crowd went mad. For just a moment, it actually felt like I was the one they were cheering for! ( Which of course they weren't!)
Kasey Chambers was fantastic with Bill and Shane Nicholson. I think my highlight was seeing the Living End. Their energy and connection with the crowd was something to see from the side of stage.
Looking forward to the Maldon Folk Festival coming up as well as the Adelaide International Guitar Festival. I have to play a couple of ACDC songs for a tribute at that fest, so that should be fun. I have an overdrive pedal for my fiddle so I should sound like a real old rocker.
Maldon is nearly my favourite festival and that happens from Oct 31st to Nove 3rd. After that we're heading up to Ouyen to play there on Melbourne Cup day and the night before at the Ouyen Club for another "Ouyen's Got Talent" nights. I'll just be compering that one. Always a hoot. If anyone thinks he or she can play an instrument or sing a song or do a few magic tricks, this is the night for you.
